Abeliona is a mountainous village in the northeastern part of Messinia prefecture. It is located in the region of Neda, in the part of the prefecture that “enters” between the prefectures of Ilia and Arcadia, at an altitude of 840 meters. It is a representative mountain settlement of Messinia, built amphitheatrically in a beautiful, verdant, natural environment.

The houses are stone-built, respecting the local tradition and form an exemplary residential ensemble, while the picture is completed by the paved alleys, the lampposts, the wooden railings and the running waters of the settlement.

In the village, the ‘Trani Vrisi’ (Trani Fountain) stands out with its four hydrants and its elaborate marble construction. Also, the stone-built chestnut forest offers paths for exploration, while the stone-built church of Agios Nikolaos is a historical and architectural landmark. Finally, of interest is the cultural centre “Theodoros Angelopoulos”, an old gendarmerie station where events are held today.
