In 1991, a new archaeological site became known in northeastern Trifyllia. It is the discovery of a Mycenaean vaulted tomb, at the site of “Ailias” of the Community of Chalkia, 14 km north of Malthi and 4 km north of Psarios. The monument was found demolished up to the height of the lintel, most of which was visible, while its contents were quite disturbed.
The circular chamber has a diameter of 4.10 metres, built with slab-like stones and preserved at a maximum height of 2.10 metres. The small finds are also very important, including two seal stones and a four-sided bead, which has a different decoration on each side. Finally, two other vaulted tombs were found and investigated nearby.
