Katsaros or Katsarou is a large village built in the vast olive grove of Upper Messinia. In its central, large square there are numerous shops, cafes and taverns, while in the area there are many modern olive mills, as the main agricultural activity of the inhabitants is the cultivation of olives and the production of olive oil. The main, large church of the village is dedicated to Agioi Theodoroi, but there are several smaller churches and chapels in the wider area.

The settlement is probably named after a Turkish patron of the area during the Turkish occupation. During the Greek Revolution in late May 1825, a battle took place outside Katsaros between forces of Ibrahim and the rebels, in which the Greeks, under the chieftain Papatsonis, repelled the enemy.
