The village of Neda is built on the southwestern edge of Lykaios Mountain at an altitude of about 790m and takes its name from the river Neda, which originates from the nearby village of Petra. Its earlier name was Berekla, which testifies to the Slavic origin of its first inhabitants. Outside the village, at the location “Kastraki”, ruins have been found that are identified with the Sanctuary of Panos and are awaiting archaeological exploitation.
It is a beautiful, picturesque village, built amphitheatrically, maintaining its traditional style with a view of the Neda valley. The village church, dedicated to Agios Nikolaos, combines in its architecture stone with red brick, as does the building of the old village school, which was built in 1904 and today houses the village’s cultural centre. All the houses in the village are built in the same style, built in stone and with red tile roofs, while the settlement has many running waters that gush from the old village fountains.
